Luke climbs to 6th position in National Rankings.

At the Tom Handley Open meet in Brighton last weekend, West Wight Swimming Club's Luke Herbert achieved his ultimate goal for 2012 of a regional standard time in the 100 and 200m backstroke. While the South East Regional Championships are not for another 5 months in June, twelve year old Luke has already qualified in both events for the 13 year age group.

Luke's outstanding times of 1.09.43 for the 100m Backstroke lifts him to 6th in the National rankings for 1999 boys and his time of 2.31.47 for the 200m back places him 3rd in the SE region. Impressively, these times are also fast enough for him to swim in the Youth Hampshire County Championships for boys three years his senior. Currently ranked number 1 in Hampshire for all 3 backstroke events, Luke has recently increased his training hours in preparation for the upcoming County Championships, for which he has qualified in 12 events.
